Dress As a Fictional Character: But Who?

Costume Filter: I'm co-hosting a party with a theme of "Dress As A Fictional Character." It's my 30th birthday. I need something that's awesome, but not too obscure.

I'm a tall, curvyish female with short hair. I'm happy to get a wig or to cross dress. I don't want to go overboard buying props and I won't sew, but I do want to look fab for my special day. Two early contenders are Wonder Woman and Jessica Rabbit. What can the Hive-mind think up to trump these? I'd like something recognisable AND rad.

Joan from Mad Men.

Prom dress from Salvation Army + sash and tiara + a mixture of kayo syrup, red food coloring and dishwashing detergent = Carrie. This was the most fun I ever had at a costume party, although I couldn't sit down or lean on anything for the night. It would have been completely (instead of mostly) impractical if the party wasn't at my house.

Response by poster: Ha! Cazoo, I'm not that curvy :P

gerls, I'm short and fairly petite, and I got a lot of compliments on my Joan costume for Halloween last year. I bought this dress (and still wear it) and this pen necklace. I would've gotten a bullet bra to complete the look, but there wasn't time. Makeup is essential here as is attitude! Don't worry about having the exact body type.

I'm guessing the reason this post hasn't been swamped with ideas is that you've already come up with a great suggestion - Wonder Woman!

Easily recognisable (nothing worse than having to explain who you are all night), looks good (it's your birthday and there will be photos), but also comfortable (i.e. you can dance in it!).

My only other suggestions would be Barbarella, or Wilma or Betty from the Flinstones...

Happy Birthday!

If you're going to be a super heroine, why not American Maid instead of Wonder Woman?

Mary Poppins?

How about one of the Lastday people in Logan's Run? Photo.

Caprica 6. Iconic, recognizable, easy, fun.

Do you remember the desaturated santa FPP? If you wanted to try that, it opens up black and white movies as a possibility, characters such as Ilsa Lund, Nora Charles, or anything from actresses like Marylin Monroe or Jayne Mansfield.

Even without the makeup, curvy girl + blond wig + white dress is usually a good Marylin Monroe.

Best answer: Pop the lenses out of a pair of cheap mirror sunglasses, and use spirit gum to keep them in place over your eyes. Fake nails, painted red near the base, silver near the tip. Black leather jacket and black jeans, black boots. You're Molly Millions from Neuromancer.

Hmm, maybe you could run with the animated thing....

Jane from the Jetson's?

She-Ra?

April from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

What about Enid from Ghost World?

Oh Duh! I forgot about the fictional part. Cleopatra's not fictional. (Nevermind.)

Wonder Woman is pretty awesome. Other comic book thoughts - Catwoman, Rogue, Emma Frost.

Lara Croft.

Morticia Addams.

Futurama's Leela.

Response by poster: Fantastic! Thank you all for your suggestions, I'm going to have a go at Molly Millions and as a backup, Wonder Woman.
