Help me find this documentary on a Journey to the arctic

I am going crazy trying to find this documentary that I watched a couple of months ago. I don't remember the channel, but it is primarily about a man who drives a car (or 4WD of some sort) to an extremely cold place (Canadian north, Norway types). Details are after the jump.

What I remember about the documentary:

1. A man drives alone and not part of the tour
2. It is not Survivorman, Ice Road Truckers or Man Vs wild or any other "survivor" type videos
3. He travels along treacherous mountain roads and in one place, he has to move forward and backward to navigate a turn
4. Along the way, he meets with residents who teach him how to build a quick ice shelter. It is very hard work!
5. He shows how the residents store food etc in a deep shelter underground
6. There are long stretches of road when he does not meet anyone in any direction and if he has a car problem, he has to wait a long time
7. Just before his destination, he has to travel on a really open landscape which is actually a river that has frozen to form the road! (Hence, all my search results point towards Ice Road Truckers)

I think myself somewhat savvy in search, but this has me stumped. AskMeFi is my last resort!

This immediately brought to mind the Dempster Highway... and Googling it immediately brought up this. Sound like it?

Response by poster: KogeLiz: That is it! Thank you.

Funny how the exact phrase does not turn this up in the NGC site.
