iPhone 4 upgrade questions.

Ok I can't stand it anymore I must have an iPhone 4! I want to buy a used one and I have several questions inside.

So I asked a what laptop question last year but it turns out the computer I use the most is my iPhone.

1) where is the best place to get a used or refurbished phone in the uk ? I'm on o2 and not eligible for an upgrade.

2) I have a jailbroken 3GS with all my files and shit on it. If I do a jailbreak on the 4 is it gonna have the same memory issues I'm having on iOS on my 3GS?

3) can I some how copy the disk image of the 3GS onto the 4?

4) how do I modify the simcard on my 3GS to fit in the 4?

Tell me anything else I may need to know too ! Many thanks.

Wait a week or two. There may be some new announcements at CES vis-a-vis the iPhone. If there are, it should drive down the price for a used 4.

Regarding CES announcements: if there is any such announcement, it will almost certainly just be the iPhone 4 coming to Verizon, which probably won't make much of an impact on GSM iPhone 4 sales in Europe. The iPhone 5 almost certainly will not be out until summer.

2) What memory issues?

3) Assuming all of your apps and data are backed up with iTunes, then they will sync onto your new iPhone 4 if you choose to restore the backup onto it.

4) You can trim it with scissors (I did mine that way) but you need some sort of template (e.g., a spare micro-SIM) to know where to cut. I think you can also find a little micro-SIM hole punch thingy for sale somewhere online. O2 may also be willing to exchange your regular SIM for a micro-SIM without modifying your current contract (I don't know, but it's worth a shot).

You're in the UK: the GiffGaff forums had some scheme where they were passing around a microSIM punch thingy. You post that you wanted it & then posted it on to the next person when you were done.

The iPhone 4 has more memory than a 3GS IIRC, both core & flash.

Um, I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't like to share the stage with anyone else and thus doesn't do CES and the like. I don't even think Apple is at CES. And if they had something to launch, they'd hold their own launch event at a venue of their choice on their timetables.

Yeah, I said "at CES" when I meant "around CES," which was expected. Should have been more precise. But, it now looks like a Verizon-only announcement, which means CDMA, and probably no impact on GSM/the UK. So, buy away, OP.
