Which recording of Andrea Chénier, the opera by Umberto Giordano, is the best? And why?

Okay, this took me a while, because although I knew that this recording was my favorite, my taste is quirky enough that I wasn't confident in saying it was "the best."

According to my two closest opera buff friends, one of whom has written about it for a living and the other of whom has seen more than 1,200 live opera performances, this is the best recording to date, and generally considered as such by the most avid aficionados. Each of the principals is a stellar performer who truly understands the role, the recording quality is quite good, and the orchestra performance is technically superb.
