Evasive driving near Atlanta

While in law school, my wife did a drive-along with the police. During the night, there was a high speed chase. She still talks about how thrilling it was. Is there someplace within a couple of hours of Atlanta where she could take an evasive driving class? I've found racetrack/NASCAR experiences, but that's not really what I'm looking for.

obviously, any of this is going to take place on a closed course, but I think the term you need to be googling is "performance driving school." No personal experience, but I live near-ish to Atlanta and have heard about www.skipbarber.com for years. A quick peek at the website showed several classes that are about car performance and handling.

She sounds like my kind of woman! Hopefully she will use her skills to be a safer driver, not to drive like that assclown in the car commercial going to get the donuts. :-)

The Porsche Sport Driving School is held at Barber Motorsports Park just east of Birmingham, Alabama. It's a straight shot down I-20 from Atlanta and is, IMO, the finest racetrack in the East.

Response by poster: I'm looking for a class that will teach high speed driving along with such fun things as bootleg turns, power slides, etc. I'm not looking to make her a race driver.

the BMW school includes skid pads, snow/rain driving, drifting, power slides, aggressive cornering etc etc.

Seconding BMW school. I've been twice. As much as it is "performance driving school" it is really about making you as safe a driver as possible and learning how to accurately assess your car's capabilities. They show you how to safely skid on wet roads, how to emergency stop safely, teach you the proper way to corner, all things that are fun and exciting in an defensive driving way but still applicable to real life. Since taking driving school, I've autocrossed a couple times and not only do I feel completely safe and secure in the knowledge that my car can handle what I'm doing, me and my family oriented X3 consistently beat guys in M cars who think it's about the car, not the driver.

Having said all that, if she does not drive a BMW, getting home to her Toyota or whatever is going to be a big letdown. :) But she'll have a blast while she is there.

Maybe something like the Bob Bondurant High Performance Driving School? Or try googling driving school skid pad. *grin*

Maybe something like an evasive driving course from a bodyguard training company?
Here's an example, though there are no classes currently scheduled. (that one's in central Florida)
