How much do you, as a server in Seattle, make hourly on average?

Thinking about getting back into waiting tables after the new year, someplace with great food and atmosphere, $15-30 per entree range. Have many years server experience but none in Seattle. How much do you make as a server in Seattle? What part time schedule should I, as a person just starting out there expect? Also, will finding
that perfect position be any more competitive than the small towns I'm used to working in, and do you have any advice toward making myself, a food and drink lover, more competitive? (Unfortunately I can't tend bar).

Without recent experience in Seattle and great references the job you should probably be looking for is busser. There are way too many unemployed servers right now with good local experience for most managers to take a chance on someone from out of town.

yes

It's been a few years since I was in the business but I've waited tables and tended bar all around Seattle. I'm very well acquainted with quite a few industry people. The kind of place you're talking about my friends are easily making over $20 per hour in tips, however, and this is the rub...seniority absolutely rules, the newer people will be the last ones called in and the first ones called off. Places like this tend to carry huge staff, way above what they might need so they never run out of hungry employees. You may for some time find yourself only getting 1 shift a week on a busy night and relying on other staff calling in sick or needing a day off to get your hours.

You can MeMail me if you like, like I said I know a few GM's and bar managers and could give you some guidance.

Trying to get back into server at that time of the year is generally an uphill battle. The busy holiday season is over, people aren't coming out as much, and most customer service/hospitality industries see a drop in the monies. A lot of businesses are cutting hour/employees. Good luck to ya.
