Name that 1970s documentary program!

The FPP about 'Connections' made me think of another documentary series that I remember from the late 70s... but only vaguely. Can you identify this program?

I am suddenly remembering watching a documentary series at some point during my childhood. It would have been broadcast in Ontario in the late 70s to early 80s. There's a good chance that it was a BBC production or co-production.

What I remember most about it is somewhat grandiose theme music (featuring lots of synthesizer, I think). I can totally hear this music in my head, but I'm not going to hum it for you :)

I think there were frequent sequences illustrated with humorous animation.

I *think* that it might have been about world history or anthropology. However, based on the youtube videos I've looked at briefly, I don't think it was Civilisation or the Ascent of Man.

Any ideas what I might have been watching?

This may not be it, but could it be Here Come The Seventies? Link is to the great theme music.

....or maybe Science International aka What Will They Think of Next?

I think WWTTON is more likely, as Here Comes the Seventies ran several years earlier and had the famous opening scene of a totally naked woman running into the sea. People tend to mention that detail.

Hmm, details are pretty generic. The Secret Life of Machines? That had humorous illustrations.

Was it "Living Planet" by David Attenborough? Because I had you with the synth theme, but I've just watched the first episode and there's techtonic animation awesomeness too.

I will now continue watching Living Planet, thank you.

If it started like this, it was "Eyewitness."

Response by poster: Thanks all for some fabulous guesses but I don't think we've hit on it yet. "Science International" sounds familiar but I don't think it was the same program. I may yet have to try recording myself humming the theme song... of course even that seems to have faded from my head now.
