Big Boy Belts in NYC

Where in NYC to buy a belt for a big dude?

Hello there. My Dad has requested a new belt for Christmas. Very exciting. He also stated that he will need a belt size 52. He's quite round. Where in NYC can I find a selection of nice conservative leather belts that carry a good variety in his size? Please not too expensive--I don't really want to spend more than $50, but don't send me to some sidewalk table in Chinatown. He doesn't care about brands or designers, so big names aren't necessary.

Downtown is a must, I don't have much time left to do my Christmas shopping--proximity to the L train is of great importance. Would Filene's or DSW have belts that size? That's probably my first stop.

There's a Casual Male XL on Third Avenue at 22nd Street, and a Rochester Big and Tall on Sixth Avenue at 52nd Street (Midtown, I know). I think those are probably your best bets. Macy's and JC Penneys at Herald Square probably have options, too.

Seconding ocherdraco. Those are your best bets. Casual Male is typically far less expensive than Rochester, but their business clothing usually isn't cut as nicely and in my experience is less durable. I've bought belts from both stores, and the CM ones tend to fall apart after 6-8 months of daily wear.

Also, some Men's Wearhouse locations also carry belts in larger sizes, and if they don't have them in stock, they may be able to order them.

Check out Rochester Big and Tall. It's pricey but they have nice stuff.

Rochester (NW corner of 52nd and 6th as said) is high end but they do currently have a rack of belts on sale for less than $50. I don't think any of their non-sale belts are under $50. They have some nice size 52 Zegna belts for around $250.

Casual Male is the place to go for under $50 belts. They have some decent stuff, but nothing you're going to love I'd bet.

It's hard to be a large guy - nice stuff is inevitably expensive. Good luck!
