UK: Can I obtain company registration number information by address , director name or any other means?

I'm trying to find out the company registration number for a specific company in the UK that I believe is scamming me. I have asked them for their company number but they will not provide it. Their website, while required by law to contain it, does not. In addition, I have a receipt from them but this too does not list the company number.

I know at least one director's name and the physical location of the company. Is there any way of doing a reverse search or any way I could obtain the company registration number?

Companies House can probably help you out.

£5 at companies house will get you access to their indexes of company addresses, directors etc etc.

Of course, the company may not be registered at the address you have.

Response by poster: I have used companies house but the name of the business does not appear making me believe they run an umbrella company or something similar. I did not know of the index, that might be worth a go.

Best answer: There's a few places that seem to index Companies House data and charge for access - I have used this company in the past which can find companies from director names. If you go for the "individual director" report it'll give you the names and company numbers for each company they're a director of. Once you've got the company name/number you can go to Companies House's website and get the company address, plus you can pay for the appointments report, which will give you the names and home addresses of all the directors.
