Where can I buy Joose energy drin/ malt liquor? It has just been made illegal in california. Are there states where you can still buy it? Is bringing it back from Mexico a possibility? Or will I be jailed for trafficking caffeine?

It's still sold here in north Texas (I saw it in the gas station today during my lunch break), though you might be able to find it a little closer. You'd have to buy a very large amount (probably on the order of multiple pallets, not just a few cans) to make it worth your while to come this far to get it. (Disclaimer: YMMV, IANAD, LSMFT)

Might you be able to find it in Oregon, Nevada, or Arizona?

A quick google search doesn't turn up a detailed analysis of the relevant law, but my guess is that they banned the sale of caffeinated alcoholic drinks, not the possession .

The sale of such beverages is also illegal in Oregon. The article is clear to specify that the sale of such beverages is illegal, but doesn't make mention of the possession.

Joose might be gone but there are several options. Four Loko is still on shelves. Or better yet, drink Scotch.

As far as I can tell, it's not illegal in Nevada. Chances are they'll have some in Primm, just 3.1 miles from the California border on I-15... and if they don't have it, you can gamble. Win-win!

Or lose, as the case may be.

On the Joose web site is says "United Brands to remove caffeine, ginseng, and taurine from its drinks" (in a flash page so I can't link to it) so it you like the way it tastes now you probably ought to stock up.

As of Nov 19, Texas Alcohol and Tobacco has taken steps to outlaw those beverages. They are now in a 15-day period of response before action will be taken. So if you want to get them from TX, get over here quickly.

It may be time to figure out how to mix your own?

It's a federal-level halt to the sale of caffeinated alcoholic drinks of this sort, as "caffeine may lead people to underestimate how drunk they are, giving drinkers a false sense of confidence that they can perform tasks they are too impaired to undertake."

If you really like the drink, stock up now and start working on your cocktail mixing skills.

And if you can't scrounge up any Joose there, just check the vending machines for some loose Sunset Sarsaparilla or Nuka-Cola - they've got the kick you need!
