Looking for the ideal solid t-shirt

I'm looking for high-quality solid t-shirts with a modern/tailored fit but not as tailored as American Apparel.
It seems like plain t-shirts these days have really short sleeves and are made of a super thin fabric.
I'm looking for t-shirts that are heavier and not so small fitting, but also not unfashionably baggy.
The closest I've come to is Lands' End Tailored Super T's. Unfortunately, their quality control on these shirts is unbelievably bad. (I've kept 4 and returned 8.)
Everything seems to be really thin and really small, but I know my ideal shirt is out there. Any recommendations?

I'm a big fan of solids, and my t-shirt source is Target. They have mostly decent colors and are cheap (though they run a size large so smalls tend to run out), so if you always wash them hot/hot/dryer you'll be able to replace them easily. Mine have lasted at least a few years apiece.

The Tees from Target (I believe they are Merona) and Urban Outfitter (BDG) are probably just what you are looking for. They are also very soft.

Uniqlo solved this problem for me. I'm wearing a high quality shirt right now that I bought there for $4.90. I like a fairly tailored fit but not too tight, since I'm not in the best shape or American Apparel hipster-male-waif skinny, and Uniqlo is perfect. In my experience, the Target ones are too baggy for me and H&M's are either too small or too baggy.
FWIW their V-neck T-shirts are relatively narrow, which I also like.

^^ By "narrow," I mean, "shallow."

Looking at Uniqlo's catalog, their shirts look promising. But how does someone in the US go about buying some if they don't live in NY? It doesn't look like they ship anywhere..

LL Bean, perhaps? I have good luck with Eddie Bauer tees as well. They're tailored without being clingy and they're made of heavier fabric, not the tissue-thin stuff.

I believe Uniqlo will ship to you, but you have to place your order by phone. Their contact information is here.
