Where's the horehound at? (NYC)

Is there horehound candy in NYC? Where?

Old fashioned horehound candy drops--you can get it in old time-y souvenir shops across the country, order it at the Vermont Country Store. But I'm in Manhattan and need some tomorrow. Googling, I found an old Chowhound thread suggesting they have it at Dean & DeLuca. They don't--I checked today.

Has anyone ever see it anywhere in the five boroughs?

Did you try Economy Candy in Manhattan? You can call them first to see if they have it - (800) 352-4544 - or if they don't they may know where you can find it. Good luck!

They don't have that particular candy on their website, but it might be worth at least calling Dylan's Candy Bar if you haven't already.

I'm pretty sure Cracker Barrel restaurants carry it, and it looks like there's one in NYC. Give them a call.

Old Bethpage Village Restoration (516-572-8400) is one county removed from your stated geographical aims but this is the sort of thing they used to sell. If you call they may be able to recommend other living history museums that might carry it. FWIW, I don't remember the Lower East Side Tenement Museum shop carrying candy though you may want to call (212-982-8420) to check.

Walgreens in my area carries it, so that might be a pretty simple solution.

Last place I saw it was Auntie El's Farm Stand on Route 17 in Sloatsburg. That's a hell of a drive, though.

You could try Dylan's Candy Bar, they have a wide array of things. give them a call.

Response by poster: Popping in late to thank everyone for their suggestions, and to note -- for the benefit of future Googlers -- that none of them panned out. I think I can say with some confidence that it is impossible to find horehound candy in New York City. I ended up ordering from the Vermont Country Store.
