Searching for a soul

ExtremelyVagueSongFilter: heard a song in the bar last night that sounded like Antony (maybe?) singing over top of a song that sounded vaguely like 'I Put A Spell on You.' Does this sound like a song that anybody knows?
Shazam couldn't get a good read on it at the time, which is unfortunate, because I have definitely heard this song before somewhere and it is driving me crazy.
Basically, the song is very subdued with a kind of smoky early 70s soul vibe, although I get the distinct impression it is much more recent than that. Given the atmosphere of the bar, probably something very recent and relatively hip, but I mean, honestly, it could be anything. The singer has a particularly striking voice which reminded me, at the time, of a kind of less operatic Antony (of the Johnson's fame). (I hope this description isn't TOO specific or obvious, geez.)
Sadly, wasn't able to pick up any individual lyrics, because the bar was loud and also because I was, uh, having a very good time (apparently, based on my headache this morning.)
This is a shot in the dark, but it's haunting me. (Even if you have no idea, would love to what people come up with.)

Oooh, good guess about the Heavy, but sadly that isn't it. Basically that exact same song but slower, calmer, and with a singer possessed of a higher, mellower range.
Good track, though, wow.

Contemporary soul singers:
Mayer Hawthorne
Eli Paperboy Reed
Raphael Saadiq
Naomi Shelton
Darondo
Lee Fields
And not soul but how about My Brightest Diamond doing Nina Simone.

Nina Simone does a version of I Put A Spell On You. Anthony sometimes sounds pretty close to her.

Could it be from Cee Lo Green's new album? This is a song from it, skip to 0:35 to hear his voice.

Is it a different song from The Heavy, "How You Like Me Now"?
Something about the horns reminds me of "I Put A Spell On You," and the song was recently used in a car commercial, so maybe you heard it there?
