laptop lcd RepairFilter: backlight wont stay on for longer than a millisecond. lcd working fine otherwise (pixels can be seen with a bright close light). Is it the inverter or the ccfl backlight?

This is for an old dell inspiron. Should I order both parts to be sure? thanks.

I would go ahead and get both parts. If you're going to replace one part you might as well replace the other because it's no fun to pop the LCD screen apart.

Seconding gregr: do both. If it's a bad inverter, it could have ruined or worn out the backlight quite a bit to where it won't work or you will have to tear it apart a second time. You are already that deep into the screen, do both.

As for which it is: my money is on the inverter. Backlights tend to have a period where they work poorly before going out, much like a fluorescent bulb has that weird dim phase before it's completely gone.

I had the same thing recently, replaced the inverter and it turned out to be the ccfl so yeah get both.
