How do I get my laptop and monitor to play nice?

I am running Boot Camp (on Snow Leopard) on a MacBook and I can't get my external LCD monitor to play nicely with the Windows side.

The monitor works fine with the Mac side, I just connect it up and away it goes, so there is clearly no problem with the monitor or the connection. However, on the Apple side it shows the Windows startup page, then goes black and that's it.

I've updated the drivers but no joy. I'm pretty sure that it's a simple fix but can't seem to figure out what the issue is.

I've used this particular monitor and laptop combo together successfully on the Windows side before, but not for a long time so I believe that I was still using Leopard (ie OS 10.5). I don't know if this is relevant.

If anyone has any tips I would be overjoyed. I am still suffering from new baby sleep deprivation and I'm sure that's not helping my troubleshooting skills!

(Monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 206BW.)

Best answer: Have you checked in the Control Panel to make sure you have multiple monitors enabled? I know that Windows allows you to use either or both, as well as having them mirrored or extending the desktop.
