Where can I buy this bowl/cup?

A Thai place in Berkeley where I had dinner some time ago had those really nice drinking bowls/cups made out of aluminum or silver or some other metal - where can I buy them? Here's a picture (with a table spoon for size comparison).

The bowls were very light, that's why I had the impression they might be aluminum. There was some kind of stamp on the bottom which I tried to decipher, but it was in Thai (?) letters.

Ordering online would be great, or a shop in the East Bay or in SF. I've tried googling but didn't find anything...

Best answer: Cha'am is the restaurant.

I think they are pewter.

Yes, it's got to be Cha'am on Shattuck. You could give them a call and ask.

Response by poster: Thanks, all! Yes, that must have been the restaurant. They didn't seem very friendly though (that's why I didn't ask). Jujube, those seem to be exactly the right type of cup, but too small. I guess the ones at the restaurant were about 3.5 inches across and about 2.5 inches deep...

Be sure it's lead-free pewter.

They're aluminum from jujube's link.

Response by poster: Hah! I just remembered that "aluminum" can also be spelled "aluminium". I found some bowls of that type searching for "water bowl aluminium thai" - the brand is apparently called "Bee" and what I'm looking for must be the 12cm size water bowl.

But they are based in Thailand (I'd obviously rather order from a US shop). So, still looking...

You could give them a call and ask.

If you don't need too many, you might even be able to buy them from the restaurant. I once bought a staff t-shirt from a Chinese restaurant.

Not to doubt that they're now aluminium, but as a kind of relevant aside..

I've got some moderately old versions of these (going by when they were first purchased - late 50s or early 60s), and a couple of very old ones (bought at the same time as antiques). The very old ones are silver, the moderately old ones appear to be silver plated beaten brass.

Here is something very similar to a couple of mine. A quick search on google suggests they turn up on ebay and antique sites with some regularity if you wanted to start collecting..

Response by poster: Thanks everyone. I think I'll check Thailand Grocer, maybe I'm lucky. And next time I go to the restaurant I'll get up my courage and ask :)
