Question: Banana creme pudding?

Smooth banana pudding? Years ago I cooked a banana pudding that was made from scratch with ordinary ingredients, yet fairly easy (stovetop, no double boiler), but I've lost the recipe. Most the recipes I've found on the web so far call for instant pudding mix (icky), and all are giving directions for what is basically a custard with sliced bananas in it, instead of the smooth "banana creme" pudding I'm remembering. Do you have a recipe for something like this? Or alternatively, something using bananas that's so good, it's going to make me forget all about that silly old "smooth pudding" recipe?

Find a recipe for vanilla pudding that you like then modify it by adding pureed bananas and cutting down on the vanilla (about half). I would guess that you could cut the liquid by about half the volume of pureed bananas that you add (up to about 1/4 to 1/3 of the total liquid). Use very overripe bananas. This is just off the top of my head, but I am reasonably sure it would work. A little banana liquor added after the pudding is off the heat might be a nice touch.

Thanks, caddis! It's going to take me a while to work my way through this jumble of responses, but I think I am going to try your suggestion first!
