Question: I should've named him Sparky.

Any tips for getting rid of static electricity in big, furry dogs? My Old English sheepdog is always rubbing against the couch and rolling around on the carpet. Every time I scratch him behind his ears, I get a slight jolt. I've tried rubbing down his favorite pillow with a Bounce sheet, but of course the static always comes back. Thanks to everyone in advance.

A few tablespoons of fabric softener in a spray bottle, fill to the top with water. Spray the dog, the carpet, the couch, your clothes, everything, as often as needed. I do this at the office once a month to help protect the computers from static. It smells great, plus you don't get any white fuzzies on black fabric (like skirts and slacks)

I would be cautious about spraying anything on a dog that's not intended for consumption, what with dogs' tendency toward licking. This anti-static spray is made for dogs, and would probably accomplish similar results.

What boomchicka said. It's not only the dog licking toxic substances to worry about, it's also that you could inadvertently give your dog a serious skin irritation.

Do you have a humidifier? You might try that -- you get more shocks when the air is very dry.
