Is there any program out there that will let me a) spellcheck AIM messages and B) show myself as being "Away" or even offline to only certain people on my buddy list?

GAIM - for many platforms
Adium X - for Mac OS X

Although I'm not sure if they'll let you be away to only certain people, though both will let you be away yet still talk to people.

I was looking for the (B) functionality as well the other day. For some reason, I thought that an older version of AIM allowed you to put certain users on some sort of "blind listing" as well. Now all I find is the "block" list.

Ahh, so, yeah, I'd love to hear the answer to this. I haven't used this product, but it shows up all the time in IM threads, so it's worth checking out: Trillian.

From what I recall, Trillian lets you individualize your away status per contact. But that may not apply to AIM, and I do not have it installed on this particular computer. It doesn't have a spellcheck.

iChat (annoying though it sometimes is) will do MS Word-style spellchecking, underlining misspelled words in red.

I asked for this specific feature in Adium...I was told that i should just get another screen name.

Specifcally I wanted to:
Have a group that I could just group 'block' as they are work people at the end of the day

The newer versions of AIM allow you to appear offline to certain people.
