What is this videogame?

I'm looking for the name of an old PC game - a top down shooter arcade style PC game in which you fought hordes of enemies.

The enemies would be zombies, giant bugs or aliens. The battlefields were empty and flat and the game was more about keeping the fire button down and trying to keep ahead of the growing crowd of monsters. Weapons were numerous and varied with decent lighting effects. The name of the game had something to do with the blood/gore covered battlefield left after each level, I think, but I'm not sure. It was freeware and I'm not sure if it was 100% complete.

It's a long-shot guys, but I have faith. Thanks for your help!

You're not thinking of Smash TV, are you?

Response by poster: Nope, not Smash TV, but the gameplay idea is the same. The game I'm thinking of was PC and much more recent. Probably released in 03-04 and not retail either, more like someone's pet project released on the web.

It sounds like Smash TV to me. But they also made a game that was LIKE smash TV but was more about killing baddies and less about the gameshow aspect called "Total Carnage".

Response by poster: Definitely not Total Carnage or Smash TV guys. It was a PC release, too.

Best answer: if it was the one I was obsessed with around that time, you're looking for Crimsonland.

Response by poster: Perfect! Crimsonland! That's the bunny! I was doing google searches for bloody land, red fields and all sorts of such combinations.
