LG LCD Television Display Issue

I own a basic 42 inch LG LCD TV-- I believe 1080p and 60hz. The television is about two and half years old. Recently two vertical lines have appeared that run roughly in line with where the standard definition display would end on the left and right edges. It seems as if these lines are "burnt in" to the display. The lines are extremely visible under light to medium tones and are about 1 inch thick at their widest. Is the TV spent? Obviously no warranty is in effect at this point. Anyone have any solutions or recommendations?

LCDs don't "burn in" in the way phosphor monitors used to. It's often (though not always) fixable. If you can hook a computer up to your screen, try this:

- Make Powerpoint or Keynote presentation, using settings that fill the entire screen.

- Make five slides; one solid white, one solid red, green blue and black.

- Set the slideshow to automatically move forward one slide per minute, and to restart from the beginning when it's done.

Turn the brightness on the LCD all the way down (to preserve the life of those bulbs, not because it has anything to do with fixing sticking pixels) and let that slideshow run overnight for the next few nights.

You should see some, and maybe a lot, of improvement.

I was going to suggest exactly the same thing that mhoye did.

If you can hook the LCD up to a computer, try JScreenFix. It will cycle all of the pixels for you at random, and can help with stuck pixels and the "burn in" look. Run for 20 minutes.

I would also google your exact model and see if others are having the same issue, and if it is a defect or something that can be fixed. Also try calling Samsung support to see if they can offer any assistance. 2.5 years is way to early for a TV to exhibit problems.
