All We Like Sheep Are Drawn To Messiah

Help me perform, sing along with, or at least hear a performance of Handel's Messiah in the Chicagoland area this Christmas!

I'm not religious, but I love Handel's Messiah as a holiday tradition. I was lucky enough to perform it when I was a part of a choir several years ago, and would love to do it again, but I've moved (to the Chicago area) so I'm not in that choir anymore.

What I'd like to find:

1. A choir that might accept another Bass I for a full or partial Messiah performance. Yes, this is way late in the game to be joining up, but if I'm too late then this AskMe might be useful next year. I'm not interested in a commitment that would require participating post-Messiah, but if I was lucky enough to find a group I'd be very happy to plow untold hours into it from now through the performance.

Now let's get a little more reasonable. Barring that:

2. Recommendations for a Messiah Sing-Along in the Chicago area, and/or recommendations for performances of Messiah in the Chicago area. Large or small performances are welcome, as long as you think it's a good recommendation.

As far as location goes, I'm willing to travel for this. I'd prefer something between 3000 S and 7000 N and somewhat close to the lake, but I'm flexible.

Best answer: I've done this do-it-yourself one before and it was phenomenally fun. Bring your own copy of the score and a whole bunch of water.

Best answer: Check out the University of Chicago's choir. The event is on Friday, Dec. 3.

Looks like First United Methodist in Oak Park has one; last year it was on the first Sunday in December.

Also, I saw that the Irving Park Fine Arts series had one last year at Iriving Park Lutheran Church, so you might e-mail this guy to see if they're doing it again.

I was going to recommend what Rallon did. I haven't been, but have always heard about it. Do note the information on how to get tickets - I've heard it sells out rapidly
