Bump

I have a question about a bump on my penis (not a joke).

While passing my hands over my penis, I found a bump, possibly right on a vein. Should I be worried about a blood clot or about anything else? Also, the thought of showing my erect penis (you can't feel the bump if it's not erect) to a doctor is mortifying. Any suggestions on that end if this is something I should be worried about?

I cannot tell you whether this is something to be worried about, but I can tell you that it is not uncommon.

Seconding it's not uncommon. Could be a pimple or ingrown hair or lots of non-worrisome things that only show up when erect. I'd wait a while and see if it goes away on its own.

Pay attention to it (something I've never had a problem doing with my dick, which in my experience, goes with having one) and get used to it being there so you can notice if it changes or doesn't.

If it stays around for a while, you may want to talk to your doctor, but unless it gets to be something much worse/more noticeable, it's probably nothing.

I can't speak to the bump (are you sure it's not just the vein itself? they can get pretty bumpy and firm-feeling on erect penises), but if you're old enough to be getting erections, then I'd say you're old enough to start getting over your embarrassment at the thought of a doctor examining your genitalia. This will be medically necessary on a variety of occasions throughout the rest of your life, and any hangups you may have are only going to get worse with time and avoidance. Any doctor you might consult has already seen thousands of penises, erect and flaccid, of every shape and size; I guarantee (s)he won't be shocked. I'd say man up and go see a doctor if you're worried.

See a doctor if you're worried about it.

Also know that a penis is covered in skin that is no different or special compared to the rest of your skin.

Is the bump visible when you are erect? I don't normally suggest taking a picture of your penis, but perhaps that is one way to show the doctor what you are talking about without being as embarrassed initially?

Twice in my life, I've had a pimple there that was more like a smooth, rock-hard lump than something I'd have found on my face or back. And it wasn't inflamed. In both cases, a curious squeeze solved the problem in the predictable way (not that I recommend doing that).

Also, not a joke.

Also investigate "sebaceous prominences" ...
