How to disassemble a Winsted Digital Desk
October 13, 2010 5:03 PM
What kind of screwdriver do I need to disassemble a Winsted Digital Desk? Model E4606 to be precise.
I called the company, but it's after-hours; and, I couldn't find anything on the intertubes.

The only clue I have is that they are hexagonal screws because on page 80 of the catalog they sell those type of screws as optional accessories. However, they might just be for installing monitors into consoles.

This is a chart of different screw heads.
You'll be looking at the "Types of Drive Inserts" section. It could also be a Torx head. You another possibility is (most likely metric) hex keys.
Can you take a picture?

Looks like Torx to me, based on the picture you linked to.

So... I don't have one of those desks either. In the US most screws are Philips. Most industrial assemblers will use hex heads or Torx. The screws in the photo you linked are Security Torx with a pin in the middle of the head.

Guy zero is right about the security torx. But you'll need to know the size.
Based on the weight of the things, I'm going to wild ass guess that they will be standard bolts for the assembly, #1 phillips screws for the racks, and the security torx for any of those lightweight discretion panels.

Thank you for the answers. Survey says torx screwdriver, but I will bring a phillips as well.
