How deep it was, How deep.

What depth are the lines of my septic system supposed to be? I live in CT where the frost line is about 36" and the septic lines and D-boxes are only about 24" deep. In none of the books about septic systems does it mention what depth these lines to the leach field are supposed to be. I guess the water coming out the septic tank is warmed by the tank itself, but at ten degrees below zero, I should think that the water would at least freeze in the D-boxes.

Best answer: My septic line exits the house at 24" below the top of the foundation - without looking outside I'd say that makes it about 12" underground. That's in CT, and it hasn't been an issue in the 10+ years I've been here.
