long johns vs running spandex

so i have really good running spandex. it's awesome and amazingly warm when i'm moving. when i'm just standing still, it's only mildly warm. do really good long johns keep you warmer than running spandex when just standing around in the cold? and if you think they do, do you have any suggestions for which ones i should buy?

thanks!

Best answer: Yes, absolutely. Spandex doesn't do much to keep you warm, but long underwear can do a lot. Wool is nice, but polypro is fine too. You can buy different thicknesses to meet whatever warmth needs you have. There are many suitable brands, so why not just hit REI or somewhere similar and see what you find.

Smartwool long underwear is great when you are standing around and great when you're moving. I love the stuff.

You can get winter spandex that is flocked on the inside.

Best answer: I really like the winter spandex that is flocked on the inside I must say. It comes in various thicknesses from mildly warm-ish to snowball fight!

Response by poster: hmmm what do you guys mean by "flocked"? i have a sugoi top that is kind of fuzzy on the inside? when i'm running it's much warmer than my under armor tights that don't have that same fuzzy layer.

Yep. Fleecy on the inside.
