Looking for distance learning program to advance from an LPN to an RN

Spouse is looking to advance his Licensed Practical Nurse degree (and certification in Florida) to a Registered Nurse one while he remains formally unemployed under the terms of his visa while we live in South America.

Being out of the US of course means that the program should be distance learning or correspondence courses, but we do return occasionally, so if there were tests every several months that have to be taken in person, that's okay. We will probably return to the US ultimately, so programs that are friendly to US standards are probably preferable to those from other countries, e.g. the UK.

We've done the usual internet searching, but the "schools" that come up the most are places like The College Network or other similar places that have sketchy reviews when you scratch the surface. Any expertise on "real" school recommendations is greatly appreciated!

My alma mater offers an online RN/BSN completion program that may be worth looking into: http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/nursing/info.asp?p=5183

I know nothing about how nursing degrees and licensing works so I can't offer any assistance there. The University of Wyoming is a good school though and gets lots of funding since it is our state's only not-for-profit four-year school.

Loyola University New Orleans might be just the place you're looking for. The program is excellent and the people are great.

Response by poster: Thanks Lobster Garden, but it looks like the U of Wyoming program requires that you're already a licensed RN (and getting the RN is the goal here).

Response by poster: And same for Loyola (all programs require you to be a currently licensed RN), but thanks Anitanola.

Best answer: Excelsior College. Totally legit. They do have some issues w/ not being recognized in every state, though they're working to change that.
