Apple Touch features

Apple Touch feature question: can the new Touch remember which particular song or video I was playing in each of several folders, and the point at which I stopped listening to the song or video, so that later I can get back to it quickly? These are features that Tivo has nailed for TV recording and I'd love to find an mp3 + pocket video player that can do the same thing. If not the Touch, is there another portable player that can do those things?
Response by poster: I should have added that I avoid iTunes and currently use Sharepod on my old iPod nano.

You have a very special request... do not expect to fulfill it by sneaking around the intended usage for the iPod. I suggest avoiding Apple players then.

I'm not even sure you can use third party tools like that with the new iPod Tocuhes/iOS 4.1.
Also, there is no concept of folders in iOS. So at a fundamental level, no.

Videos and audiobooks restart where you left them, but songs don't.
Folder don't make a difference either way as far as I know.

Response by poster: In what way is either using third party software in conjunction with an iPod or returning to a video or a song "sneaking around the intended usage"? Is there a terms of service clause that speaks to this?

You have your answer. You can do what you want, if you use iTunes by applying the "remember position" checkbox to all your media in iTunes. If you avoid iTunes and use Sharepod, why not fire it up and see if it has a similar option?

The intended usage of the iPod touch is to use it with iTunes. Apple did not design the touch to work well with other software, nor should it be expected to. Therefore, its intended usage is with iTunes.
Baldons provided your answer, but if you avoid iTunes, I'd avoid Apple players as well. They complement each other, and yes, they are designed to work together.

Best answer: Trying to use an iPod Touch outside of iTunes will not be a happy experience. They're more complicated than plain iPods, and depend on iTunes features much more heavily. It's bad enough with iTunes, tbh
Your choices are either a) re-evaluate iTunes or b) buy a different player. If you go a) at least it will do exactly what you're asking.
