Austin Record Convention tips?

Me and the squeeze are headed to Texas for the Austin Record Convention. We are pretty good crate diggers, appreciate bargains and are hoping to get some stuff we can't find by other means. I'm asking anyone experienced with that particular scene for some insight, as well as any tips from collectors on how to maximize the big convention experience. Thanks!

Haven't been to Austin but two particular strategies come to mind.

1. if you're looking to score some particularly rare stuff (maybe even drastically undervalued), show up very early so you can get first divs at the various crates.

2. if you're looking for the best price period, hang out until the bitter end when various vendors are trying to dump as much poundage as possible before having to load up their vans again.

Apologies: for crate diggers, the best way to score is to get a time machine.

Sorry; trust in luck and serendipity, persistence helps.

Best answer: a few things: there are 3 days of shopping at the ARC. the 1st day (Friday) is open at 10am only to early shoppers and costs $25 good for the whole weekend. the serious collectors all start on friday. it's good to get there on friday as there are quite a number of shoppers from all over the world that pick over everything that friday. show up right when we open each day, as there is so much stuff it will take all weekend to see everything.

i don't think we are doing it this year, but usually we have requests made over the PA system throughout the day. if we do do it, look for the requests table where you can write it what you are looking for specifically. announcements are made and dealers listen in and if they have the record you want they will bring it up to you.

also, please stop by the headquarters table and we should be able to direct you to certain dealers when looking for something specific (also come say hi). any questions see www.austinrecords.com or email doug@austinrecords.com we are also on facebook and twitter (@austinrecords)

philip-random is right on the money about the last day. lots of dealers do slash prices and we've even had dealers in years past leave a large number of boxes behind free for the taking.
