(Yet Another) Help Me Find This Book

I would really like to locate a hardback picture book I loved as a child. It has to do with 3 children who find this whole fantasy world up a tree. Different areas on each stretch of branch, and the tree is hollow so they can slide down it's centre to get to the ground.

I remember it being fairly fantasy oriented. One of the girls was named Fanny, I believe, and one of the characters up the tree was a moon faced boy (literally, his face was the moon). The 3 children were 1 girl and 2 boys. Any ideas?

I had no idea it was somewhat of a series. In the end it turns out to be "The Folk of the Faraway Tree".


Oh, and I got it wrong, it was 2 girls and 1 boy.
