How is the TV show Gangland made?

How do they make the TV show gangland? After googling, I can't see to find any interviews with anyone who works on the show. I'm looking for information regarding how they gain access to the gang members, what they go through gathering video on the street, things of that nature. Thanks!

The only thing I can really find is in this interview, in which someone says Gangland used photos without permission and basically just came to their neighborhood.

You would have to register, a large part of the site is "VIP only" and you have to accept many posters are posers but there is a lot of info about gangs and related topics available there.
