How to assemble a Chinese violin?

I bought an Erhu (Chinese violin) in Shanghai and it kind of fell apart while I transported it back to Chicago. The string that acts as the nut has unwound and the strings and pegs have come apart. I'm looking for someone in the Chicagoland area that knows how to put this instrument back together!

I've called a few stringed instrument shops and they aren't familiar enough. I asked the head of a music department at a local university and he didn't know anyone that knew how to properly wind the string that makes the nut.

Nothing is broken, it's just like a jigsaw puzzle at this point!

check with the Chicago School of Violin Making, Old Town School of Folk Music, or Andy's Music, they can all put you in touch with a decent luthier

You might look into contacting Betti Xiang, who looks to be a professional erhu player based in Chicago. If nothing else she might be able to point you in the right direction. The local Chinese school might also be a source for references.
