When to buy things so we can all save money?

Best time to buy .... everything! The more that add to the list, the better!

I have noticed a couple of questions on Ask Metafilter asking when the best time to buy specific things like cars or clothes are. I thought it would be a good idea to have a list of the best time to buy anything you can think of. Be as specific (buy salmon in Seattle in December) or as broad (buy Christmas tree lights in January) as you you'd like. If certain stores are known for annual sales, include those too.

The more responses, the more useful this post becomes for everyone! Don't hesitate to post no matter how obscure!

Buy drugstore makeup in late January; that seems to be the time when product lines switch over, so discontinued stuff is commonly 50-75% off.

Thank you for this question-- I've been meaning to post something like this for months, but couldn't figure out how to word it!

January "white sales" are a tradition at older stores (e.g., Macy's), when bedding and linens go on sale.

Motorcycles from a private seller during the winter. Demand is lower, as many folks don'r ride during the winter.

It goes without saying that the best time to buy holiday supplies (Christmas, Easter, etc.) is immediately after the particular holiday.

Same with seasonal items. Buy lawn and garden supplies at the end of summer. Buy snow blowers, window insulation, etc., at the end of winter. This goes for seasonal clothes too.

Buying TVs after the Super Bowl is ALWAYS a good idea. Prices just about crash on older, larger sets. Also, a astonishing amount of "refurb" sales from all the people who bought and then returned TVs for the game.

There's a rather popular book on this topic also. (NPR interview)

Buy cars (from a dealer) toward the end of the month, when salespeople are more likely to need to meet their quotas and therefore may be more willing to make a deal. Also, buy the current model toward the end of the calendar year, right as the new models are coming in (e.g., wait to buy a 2010 model later in 2010, once the 2011 models are coming on the lot).
