No crazy families on our honeymoon please.

Necessary honeymoon during school breaks.

We live in NYC metro area and my fiance is a teacher - so we have to take our honeymoon during a school break.

Where can we go where it's not going to be mad-crazy with crowds?

We have access to timeshares all over the place.

So ... President's day week, Easter/Spring break or the last week in June - first week of July through 4th of July weekend.

We're willing to fly but even better if someone can suggest a drive-able place without spending half the vacation in the car.

Response by poster: We are utilizing any of the RCI timeshares. There's locations all over the place. So budget's not a factor... we have to use one of the timeshares.

I don't want to be hiking through city streets since we already live so close to NYC and we're well experienced with Chicago and Boston.

Warm or cold, doesn't matter.

What activities are you interested in? Sightseeing? Historical sites? Lazing around/total mindless relaxation? Romantic dinners? Lots of nookie to the exclusion of much else? Theater? Educational sessions / learning trips?

I'd start by defining what sort of activities you want, and that will help drive the decision. If you like to be active and learn something, that will limit you to certain locales. If you're planning on spending most of your time getting to *ahem* know each other, well, you can do that just about anywhere without interruption. So it really helps to have an idea of what you'll be doing, even if that's "not much."

Also, congrats!

Response by poster: We are open to historical places. Fiance is a history teacher. We've done DC. But we'd also like to chill a little bit. We are both movie nerds so maybe some place of film relevance? We also like antique-ing. (sp?)

Kuaui might be a good bet -- great during any period you mention.
Sightseeing? Yes. (especially if you throw in Maui).
Historical? Not really, but what the volcanoes did many years ago is evident.
Romantic dinners? Yikes yes.
Movie buff? We did this one and liked it.

If Hawaii is a tough go, I think any point during your period might be Arizona/Grand Canyon -- some good historical stuff from an Old West perspective and the Southwest and its desert are really sort of gorgeous. Recently went and actually never knew even Phoenix area has lots of mountains. Tons of resorts and spas. And, if you've never seen the Grand Canyon -- sort of in movies -- a honeymoon there is a great way to spend it.

Somewhere like Charleston, SC, or Savannah, GA, might work. Some cool history, I think antique shopping (well, I know there are art galleries anyway), and lots of movies have Low Country settings. Plus there are beaches nearby.

As for your breaks, Pres Day is too cold, Spring Break/Easter would be nice to walk around but no good for the beaches, and the summer... probably OK but depends on your heat tolerance. June would beat July, of course.

Another thing to consider is that some holidays are only American (like July 4th) while others are celebrated at different times in different countries. While late November may be Thanksgiving in New York, the one in Canada has long since passed so I wouldn't expect it to be particularly crowded in Montreal then.

Driving distance? The Sagamore outside Lake George. I also happen to like the beach in the winter and many of the north east beach towns would have availability and would be cost effective during the fall or winter.

Montreal (as noted above by tomwheeler) is a great town in the early summer. Can also take Amtrak there and enjoy the trip.

Boston, of course. I love Cape Cod in the off seasons but some find it bleak.
