How do I twitter on a short trip to Japan

How do I twitter (cheaply, mobile-ly) on a short trip to Japan? How much will it cost?

I want to upload social media content for my organization during an outreach event in Japan, lasting one week.

Prior askmefi questions direct me to cell phone rental sites, but they say SMS is connected to the phone's email, and the phones don't seem to have web capability.

I have a locked iphone, but I might not be the one that will be covering this event. If a colleague goes, hardware will need to be rented.

I can upload photos etc from my hotel room, but what is the cheapest way I can twitter/facebook on the go? Anyone have cost estimates?

Assuming you can install apps on them (a twitter app and the Facebook app), renting an iPhone from http://www.jcrcorp.com/ seems like a solution. One week rental of iPhone 3GS, $85, iPhone 4, $100.
