I need help finding a fall surfing beach in my NJ area.

My friend is a new-ish surfer looking for a beach with a consistent break to surf this fall that's close by. She lives in Jersey City and would travel as far south as Belmar, but would prefer to stay north of there. She is not interested in NY beaches. Which beach(es) do you recommend?

If she goes further south, Long Beach Island has some good surfing. Surf City on LBI is aptly named. We go to Surf City almost every weekend spring, summer and fall, and it seems very surfable in the fall especially. She may want to keep tabs on the NJ and NY Surf Reports, too.

Sea Bright, about a mile south of the town center, you can park for free on Imbrie Place. Walk about 500 feet further South on Ocean Ave and that's where the stairway over the seawall is to the free surfing beach. I was just down there the last week of August, still the same as it was 20 years ago when I used to go there regularly. Sea Bright is the easternmost town of the entire state of NJ and always has great waves. Watch out for rip currents, there were a few nasty ones a month ago.

I lived in the West End section of Long Branch for a year or so and there were a TON of fall surfers out there. It's near Red Bank and is nice and clean with a decent bagel/pizza shop too! :)
