Is summer bigger in Texas?

I'm going to southern Texas in mid-October. Is this still beach weather down there? Any recommendations?

I'm going to Brownsville in mid-October. I'd like to go to the beach. Will it still be warm enough to swim? Any recommendations for places, either side of the border?

Water temperature should be in the high 70s. The average air temp is in the low 80s.

this is pretty easy to Google

I grew up in South Texas. The answer is yes, it will still be beach weather.

The only place to go around there is South Padre Island, which is very close to Brownsville. There's nowhere else to go anywhere close and most people from Texas consider SPI to be the nicest beach in Texas You certainly wouldn't want to go into Mexico, as there's no beach nearly as nice nearby and the the security situation on the Reynosa/Matamoros side of the border is really really sketchy (read: scary).

There are many many hotels and condos on SPI, and they should be relatively cheap, as October is off-season.

Grew up in South Texas. Absolutely yes, it will still be beach weather.

Go to South Padre Island - either on the south end of the island, at the public park, or, if you'd like to drive onto the beach, the northern public beaches. I always liked going down to Andy Bowie park on the south end (I think that's what it's called, I can't remember). Padre Island should be about 20 minutes from Brownsville, but to be honest, I rarely went to Brownsville (grew up inland), so I'm not sure about that.

I know Brownsville has a beach at Boca Chica, but I never heard anything about it. I just assumed it wasn't as nice as South Padre.

It will most likely be beach weather unless some kind of storm is coming through and it's raining (which isn't unlikely). Go to South Padre Island. Do not go to Mexico.

My birthday is smack-dab in the middle of October. I've noticed that our first cold snap generally happens sometime between that and Halloween. So if you're here in the first half of the month, you'll probably be fine.

I was just in South Padre Island this past weekend. The ocean water was warm, so it could probably last for a few more weeks. It's about a 20-30 min ride from Brownsville. Oh and yeah, thats the best beach around....I'm in northern Mexico and have been vacationing in SPI almost yearly.

We spent our honeymooon on SPI, the first week of November. It was fine beach weather during the day, but we needed a light jacket in the evenings and early mornings. It also rained a couple of times.
