Second best kind of dream?

Ever had a funny dream? Funny ha-ha, not funny peculiar.
Woke up in the the middle of the night having just pulled out of a dream that, while unusual plot-wise as dreams tend to be, was nothing over the top. However it had actual comedy in it. I'm talking Stooges-esque slapstick -- sudden blows to the head etc.
Googling got me one reference to a humourous dream in a previous AskMe comment, other than that all I can find is endless 13 year old girls... OMG I had the funniest dream!
So sorry if this is a stupid question but it's something I've never even considered before. I'm wondering if the comedy was something my (semi-)conscious mind inserted as I woke and thought about it. Or do people have funny dreams and if so how common is this?

This post was deleted for the following reason: this seems more chatty than question-y. We don't know how your dreams work, what problem are you trying to solve? -- jessamyn
Chatfilter, but yep, I've woken myself up laughing at my dreams.

I have fairly vivid dreams, and they seem absurd (in the dream) every couple of weeks or so. I sometimes wake myself up because I refuse to believe what is going on -- sort of like a "Right! Stop being silly!" at the end of a Monty Python sketch. Not sure if that is what you mean or not.

Response by poster: Huh. It seemed very strange that I could go 39 years without (remembering) experiencing such a thing or hearing about it. Struck me as a bit of a phenomenon.

I had a dream a couple of weeks ago where I was the producer of a movie. I remember watching the trailer of my movie in my dream, and there were a few genuinely funny jokes in there (about British history, of all things).
I remembered them when I woke up, and was surprised that my brain was creating content that made sense in the real world, as opposed to the usual "my 7th grade teacher wants me to help her win the soapbox derby" type stuff.
