Getting jacked around

Picture inside. Please help me know what type of 3.5mm adapter I am trying to find.

I am trying to use my Samsung captivate-android phone as a recording device by using a mono microphone I own (it is the lapel clip type) as the input device.

I have a samsung galaxy phone that accepts the standard 3.5mm binaural and mic headset. I also have a mono microphone which has a 3.5mm jack. [See this picture - mic is black, headset is blue]

The problem is two fold: when I plug the microphone jack into the samsung phone 1) The phone doesnt pic up the mic and 2) the phone records through the mouth piece.

I went to radioshack, explained this problem, and they gave me this adapter to use as a go-between my black mono mic and my samsung. It made no difference.

I assume I am looking for an adapter here? What do I call it, how can I find it? Links to something on the internet I can print out and bring to radio shack/frys would be helpful.

I think this adapter would do the job. If you want to keep searching and see if you can grab the same thing cheaper, those are called Y-adapters.

Best answer: This adapter should do the job. It'll connect the tip from your mic to the sleeve on the iPhone jack and the ring from the mic to the second ring on the iPhone jack. Looks like the one rancindchickn linked to will work too.

Response by poster: After visiting two radioshacks, a guitar center, wireless toys, and fry's, I finally broke down and bought one off eBay for a few bucks... thanks for the help, all.
