Any way to rescue photos/etc from an iPhone in recovery mode?

Posting this for a friend. She's a resident in another country and doesn't have access to an Apple store or AppleCare.

She has an iPhone 3GS that had been upgraded to OS4. Not sure of the exact version - probably just 4.0. Her phone isn't jailbroken.

A couple of days ago when she tried turning the phone on it put up the recovery mode screen and is now stuck there. I believe she's gone through all the standard "reset" chicken dances possible without plugging it into the computer. She doesn't know what caused this and can't think of anything "unusual" she was doing with the phone. Just email/web browsing.

It's been about a month since she last backed up via iTunes (yes, yes - she knows). Since that time she's taken some photos and videos that she'd like to rescue from the now useless phone. She's afraid if she continues with the recovery via iTunes she'll lose the photos/videos taken since her last backup.

Is it possible to rescue the photos/videos? Many thanks in advance for any advice offered!

Best answer: This app exists just to switch iPhones out of recovery mode.

Response by poster: Thanks for links! It turned out that RecBoot solved the problem perfectly.
