A few MacBook issues

I've an aging MacBook Pro, well exactly 3 years old. I've found that ever since a recent update by Apple the wifi frequently refuse some networks until the machine has been rebooted. Any fixes? Also, It appears the CD/DVD drive has now died. As I never used it, does anyone have good recommendations for repurposing the drive bay?

A lot of users take the CD/DVD drive out and replace it with a second hard drive. Sometimes they use this opportunity to upgrade to an SSD.

You also might have an ExpressCard slot into which you could install (read: slide in) a smallish SSD. I just put a 48GB SSD card (WinTec filemate I think?) into my similar vintage mbp and it makes a small but delightful difference in speed. I reinstalled the OS onto the ssd but left my home directory on the hard disk. I think it feels good to have a clean reinstall of the system every few years. Which could also help with your wireless problem, but I cannot promise.

Is there an Apple store near you? I've found the people there to be very helpful, especially if you just tell them what's happening and that they were the first place you thought might be able to help. They should at least be able to run a system check of some kind. I was there the other day on the off chance they'd replace my slightly-immersed-in-water iPhone, and an hour later I walked out with a warranty replacement.
