How to housesit in Toronto/LA/Vancouver?

How can I help a friend who is Canadian writer (and is unfamiliar with AskMe) find housesitting opportunities in house-sitting after October 1st in Toronto/L.A./Vancouver/Bhutan? He has a dog.
Ken Hegan is a Canadian writer who I think is pretty funny indeed.
He's looking for housesitting opportunities in Toronto/ L.A./ Vancouver/ Bhutan starting October 1st, and he's unaware of AskMetaFilter, so I'd like to help him out by finding recommendations for good web-based resources (Craigslist is a no-brainer) that he can use to find the ideal house-sit.
Any ideas about how he can fulfill his dream?
