Getting an outside perspective: career boards.

What are some good and very active career-focused message boards?

I have lots of questions about next steps to take in my career, and I'd like to get ideas from beyond my personal network so I'm looking for online advice forums. MeFi has helped answer some of these questions, but I don't get as many responses as I'd like and the 1-question-per-week limit is sometimes an issue. Plus, I want to use my MeFi account to post more interesting questions :).

So what are your favorite online forums for career questions? I'd like to find a site that's active so I get a variety of responses and where the level of discourse is high. I've tried monster.com's forums, but I feel that they're dominated by advice on changing jobs or simply complaints about people's jobs. I don't feel that the quality of advice given there is very good.

I'm not necessarily looking for an industry-specific site, but in case it helps I work in healthcare software as a combination analyst / project manager.

What's your age group? Brazen Careerist is a social network for Generation Y professionals. If you fit into the age group, it may be what you're looking for, but if you've got a well-established career path, it may not be the right place for you.

Response by poster: Thanks for the idea - I'll check it out - but I'd like a site inhabited by people with differing amounts of experience. I'd like to also get advice from people who have been through all of this, climbed the ladder, and had to choose between work & attending kids' activities (no kids in my life, but hopefully someday). I wonder if I'll be able to get that perspective on a site targeted at the younger crowd.

But like I said, thanks and I'll try it out.

http://gottamentor.com/ might be what you're looking for.

Also, try exploring the forums of linkedin. my college has a career advice forum.
