Looking for an original "Justification for Higher Education" poster
August 2, 2010 12:16 PM
JUSTIFICATION FOR HIGHER EDUCATION... the original poster. If you grew up in the 80s and 90s, you probably saw this poster at the local book fair. Does anyone know where I can find the original version of this poster?
There's a lame updated version that features newer cars, as well as a desecrated version of the original with neon brake lights. I don't want those.
I'm looking for the original. Anyone know where I might find one? No luck on eBay or Craigslist. Thanks!

Let me look through my old posters tube. I know I used to have one, but I haven't seen it in years. You can have it if I can find it.

Don't know if this is helpful, but it looks like the updated version is courtesy of Ron Kimball. I couldn't find any indication of whether or not he was also responsible for the original version.

In case anyone else had the idea, tineye.com is only taking me to sites that take me to sites where the poster is sold out.

It's amazing how rare this poster has become. I'll do some old-fashioned electronic mailing to these leads, and see where it takes me.

Yeah, it's kind of weird. It doesn't seem like a simple case of the updated version being actively promoted and widely available so the original version is being pushed out of search results. It's as if the original version has been wiped from history.
Another lead would be to contact the purveyors of the neon version, Neonetics, and ask them who owns the rights to the image (surely they must be licensing it from someone, no?). It seems like they're the only ones currently selling the original version in any form whatsoever.
