...when the fanfiction is better than the canon...

Help me find this Twilight fanfic I never got to finish. It starts off with Jasper trading book suggestions with a black girl in a diner. The one line I remember is Jasper thinking something to the effect of, the North loved Negroes as a race but not as individual people, and vice versa for the South.

Although any good Twilight fanfiction recommendations are also welcome, as long as it's not more of the lovey-dovey Bella and Edward gazing into each others' eyes rubbish that the canon has in such abundance.

Oh man, that sounds amazing. Closest I can find is this one, but it doesn't start off with a diner.

I found that one, too, but the one I have in mind is not on fanfiction.net. It was hosted on some other site, looked like a manual design (i.e., not a template on top of CMS software) with a white background.

I think the north vs. south line was a red herring, because I found it in "Amputated at the Neck" by Minisinoo.

If only I could remember a single one of those books they were talking about!
