Summarise Gentry Lee's sequels to the Rama series

I've just finished re-reading the 4 books in the Rama series by Arthur C. Clarke and Gentry Lee, and was wondering about the sequels by Lee solo, set in the same universe, which by all accounts are not very good. Has anyone read them, and would you like to summarise?

Various reviews slate Lee for being a bad writer, so I don't want to read the books, but I'm quite interested in finding out something thats been bugging me for a while - how did Maria, the girl found in the octospider zoo in the 4th book, get there? It was never resolved, and I gather Maria has a role in Lee's sequels. Basically, what happens that directly relates to the Rama books?

I couldn't even get through the first hundred pages in Lee's first solo book, so it's also a mystery to me. It's been 10 years since then, so I honestly remember nothing about the little I read.
