Face masks now required in NYC?
I live about a 15 minute walk to work in NYC.
But increasingly, I cannot walk to work because the air is nearly unbearable by the smokers.
I'm like navigating a minefield everytime I walk, weaving and bobbing to get away from the smokers - they're everywhere!
I've been increasingly taking a taxi, subway, or bus instead especially with the smoke and heat combined.
It got to a tipping point today when a guy started walking in front of me with a cigarette in hand and NOT smoking! Just walking with it in his hand and causing my air and lungs to be filled with grossness.
And I don't understand why some smokers just toss their butt on the sidewalk. I just want to understand what is going through their minds. I don't throw my garbage on the street.
By the time I'm at work I'm so stressed and feel like already unenergized.
I love walking but might have to find a much longer route to work perhaps or rely on transit.
Or I might seriously get a face mask if it filters smoke well. I don't care how I look, people will just think I'm sick. I'll take it off a block away from work.
Its not fair and I'm frustrated. Not angry at at the smokers really because its a habit they probably want to break anyways and the greedy tobacco companies know they've got people hooked.
But I would appreciate smokers being more considerate. Not throwing their butts around for example.
Is it too much to ask to walk the streets smoke free? What about for the young children?
I know they are planning on banning smoking in parks and beaches soon.
But in the meantime, if anyone has any specific suggestions (face mask or best smoke free routes), please let me know.

This post was deleted for the following reason: I'm sorry you're frustrated, but this is a complaint, not a question askme can answer for you. -- cortex
