Fixed Gear Equipment Question.

Bicycling filter: Looking for a bike bag (around the waist) for fixies. Usually only found at a fixed gear shop or, often enough, home made with loops for your belt.

My kid brother has made mention of this type of bag in the past.

The way he puts it: "It's a hipster thing. Roadies use seat bags attached to the bike. Hipsters use hip bags on a belt."

I'd like to find one for his upcoming birthday however I am an avid hiker living in the mountains, while he's a flatland (Florida) bicycle rider. I'm out of my knowledge base here.

Thanks :D

I believe what you might be looking for is a fanny pack.

Hope that helps

Reload Bags makes them too, and you can pick the colors, if you think he wants something to match his bike.

"Hip Pouch" seems to be the term used by manufacturers.
See Fabric Horse linked above, Reload, Freight Baggage, Seagull, and other messenger bag companies. Most will let you customize the colors of fabric & stitching.

Fanny packs, I would think a thrifted or retro one would help maximize fixie cred, maybe try ebay?

Yeah, "hip pouch" is Keebler-speek for "fanny pack." I'd recommend Seagull if you have time-their custom bags take 2-3 weeks from ordering to ship-and Chrome if you need it quick.

I was coming in to suggest the Fabric Horse bags. They are really really cool and well made. Also unlike anyone elses bags.

Also, Chicago Wig makes a really nice one.

Great suggestions so far. I've bought stuff from R.E.Load and Freight, and had great experiences with both. Mountainsmith makes great lumbar packs, but this is emphatically not what he has in mind.

It would be good to determine what kind/size of lock he has, and, if it's a u-lock of some kind, make sure the bag offers a way to carry it.

I'm definitely no expert, but fixie cred would probably be maximized by finding somebody local (to him) who makes 'em.

(And yeah, the Fabric Horse utility belts, or superhero belts or whatever they're called, are really cool.)
