A picture in iMovie

How can I show a picture in iMovie for seven minutes and include a pre-recorded music track with it?

My sister and I have recorded many long songs, and we want to put them on our blog. Of course, blogs don't accept audio tracks, just videos. How can I have a picture run for seven minutes in iMovie and include our song along with it? People do this on YouTube all the time. I know how to have pictures run for about ten seconds, then it gets really tedious copying and pasting it. Is there a better way to do it?

If you double-click on the asset, it brings up an inspector window. From there, you can set the # of seconds duration, without being limited to the 10s default max (I just tried it, and I could set it to 600 seconds i.e. 10 mins).

Response by poster: I tried that, and it said "maximum exceeded". I clicked on the little clock in the bottom corner of the picture.

I'm using 7.1.4 if that makes a difference, and I never learned how to use it so all the settings are probably still on default.

Response by poster: Unless I don't know what the "asset" is.

what? this is patently false. you should be able to upload a mp3 file to your blog host or some other space and embed it in a post or on any web page; people have been doing this for over a decade. if your host won't host mp3 files, you can sign up for a whole host of services that will do it for you. for example, blip.fm will host your music and then provide you with a flash file you can embed on a page so people can play your music: http://blog.blip.fm/faq/

Ah, OK - my instructions were for iMovie '09 (8.something). In that version, double-clicking the icon for the imported picture in the "Project" pane (top-left) brings up the inspector window.

(Yeah, I didn't delve into the mistaken assumption in the Q, I just answered the question as posed above the fold.)

If you tell us what blog software / host you're using, that'll help.

Response by poster: I'm using blogspot. I don't really want to have our stuff all over the internet, or make readers go to a separate host website, so I'd prefer directly uploading videos from my computer if at all possible. I'll have to figure out blip.fm...I've actually looked all over before and couldn't find ANYTHING to embed...it all led to outside websites whenever I tried to post an mp3.

Best answer: i just googled upload embed mp3 blogspot and the third result was this step-by-step tutorial on how to embed mp3s on blogspot using a free simple flash audio player and google sites—does that count as an "outside" website? google owns blogspot, after all, so you basically already have a google sites account—that should do the trick for you.

Response by poster: Just in case anyone comes back and reads this, divshare.com has actually worked out.
It actually embed without making readers go to a separate website.
