xbox 360-filter: looking for games that either a) have good 3 (or 4) player co-op or b) have good multiplayer (versus) mode for 3-4 players all on the same xbox

currently loving army of 2 (the first one, not 40th day) however it is only 2 player

not a big hairy deal if it is an original xbox game, as we play a good bit of star wars battlefront II and the original "far cry"

i am aware of COD: MW 2 and COD: World at War -- any other good suggestions?

really, the co-op isnt as big of a deal as good multiplayer portion...

Have you been to co-optimus.com yet? It's really great. Here's a link to Xbox 360 games sorted by number of players on splitscreen multiplayer.

Gears of War 2 has a good multiplayer co-op mode (Horde Mode) which supports up to 5 players. I don't recommend spit screen, though.

Castle Crashers from the xbox live marketplace. My friends and I spent many weekends playing this game (a throwback to oldschool arcade games like Simpsons and TMNT with a little RPG flair) and is definitely one of the games where when there's only three, you wish the fourth was around.

Bomberman Online. I cannot emphasize this enough.

+2 to Castle Crashers. It's goofy, fun, kind of addictive, and just the right amount of challenging with 4 players.

Also Castle Crashers, or, if you're FPS minded, Halo 3.

I enjoyed the crap out of the original Marvel Ultimate Alliance with 3 other players, and you should be able to find it used for $10 or so. The sequel is... less good.

thinwoman and I enjoy Left 4 Dead.

Me and my friends love EA's NHL. I haven't played '10 but we wasted many many hours in 09. I know it's not a shooter, but the team play is good. Try the demo and see if it works for you.

Left 4 Dead would be perfect, but you can't splitscreen with more than 2 people, unfortunately. It's difficult to think of any games that support more than 2 players on one XBox these days besides Halo. I never tried ODST, but I did play the Halo: Reach beta a little bit. It looks very promising, and I wasn't a big fan of Halo 3.

3 on 3 NHL Arcade is a kick, even if you don't much like hockey.

The South Park game is also fun, but gets a bit repetitive.

Brain Challenge is fun if you're drunk and like trash-talking your friends.

It's only two-player, but we've gotten a lot of mileage out of Peggle.

Rock Band and its derivatives are another obvious choice, if you like that sort of thing.

Best answer: Halo 3 and ODST are both great co-op games with split screen. Halo 3 has tons of great online multiplayer stuff, ODST comes with all of Halo 3's multiplayer plus "Firefight" which is basically GoW2's Horde mode (but having tried both, I much prefer Firefight). Geometry Wars 2 (awesome game) has 2-4 player local multiplayer - you can try all modes in co-op or competitive modes. You can also have the chaotic "co-pilot" mode where each ship has one person steering and one shooting.

Response by poster: NHL wont work, mostly because one of my brothers refuses to play NHL anymore b/c he always gets p0wned lol

i had been considering halo 3 anyway -- so between halo 3, ODST and gears of war which one is better

also, never heard of castle crashers, so i am going to look into it

finally, in left 4 dead 2 can one splitscreen w/ more than 2 or no?

Best answer: Halo 3 has the better single player (and by extension, co-op) campaign. ODST includes Halo 3's entire multiplayer mode, plus the extra firefight mode, so there's that advantage if you're only going to play multi.
